We have been UNICEF business buddies for a while now. High time we also met the other buddies. Every year, the UNICEF Business Buddie Café is organised for that purpose. Held last Thursday in the beautiful building where one of the buddies, AquaMinerals, works every day (in KWR’s premises). It was a great afternoon full of surprising encounters and inspirational insights. It is also great to see how the contributions lead to a better future for many children, making the future itself a bit brighter.
Jouke Boorsma of AquaMinerals kicked off as host with an interesting insight on how sustainability and innovation can go hand in hand. An approach that FMN is also working on and committed to on a daily basis. A round robin question painted a picture of the diversity of buddies, reinforced by two rounds of speed dating. Herman van der Velde talked about how his travel company Djoser has been supporting UNICEF in various forms for 30 years. Together with customers, who always have a non-binding opportunity to make a donation that the company then doubles.
Before a more than successful drink rounded off the day, there was still time for a tour of the impressive, open building – with soothing, rippling water flowing right through it. At the same time, the other half of the buddies got an in-depth presentation from Marjolein van Leeuwen on what has been achieved in recent years within the two projects: climate-resilient villages in Madagascar and the one FMN contributes to, the plastig building blocks from Ivory Coast.
